A crisis is also a new opportunity!

Have you ever heard “Adversity is a concealed opportunity for growth or change in anybody’s life?” Definitely, you must have listened to this on numerous occasions in your life. And this is indeed true to every extent. Yes, it is true, each adversity that comes into our lives is full of several opportunities. However, all you need to see those opportunities is the right perspective towards life and life’s problems. If you lack that perspective, then even a tiny problem will look like a huge pile of problems.

This life is full of ups and downs, and you must have noticed this thing many times in your life. Just for a while, go back in your past, and see how many times you have faced a problem, be it financial, physical, emotional, relational etc. Whatever worry you had last year or maybe last month, are you still worried about that? No, you are not! But for sure, you must have learnt something new from that problem, which you do not realize when you are in trouble, but later you do!

Crises or troubles are an inevitable part of our lives, they come into our lives, no matter how hard we try to avoid them. Crises are troubles or unwanted events that simply disturb everything in and around us. More often than not, crises result in some type of loss, be it financial or emotional or physical. Losses are just the very result of any crises or problematic situation that comes in our lives.

We do everything or try everything to bring our lives into the track during those situations of crises. Chaos seems prevailing everywhere. But nothing seems to work out during those situations. In fact, some people tend to get into distress and depression during these crises.

Do you know that your crises can be a new opportunity? Wondering how???

1. Your perspective matters the most

Yes, how you see your problem, determine whether your crisis is going to be an opportunity or adversity for you. Your outlook towards your life’s adversities matters the most. As said earlier, problems or adversities are an inevitable part of our lives. No matter what, we have to go through them if they come. No matter how big or small a problem is – we need to go through them. Believe it or not, there is nobody on the earth whose life is smooth or stress-free. Everybody has their own share of challenges in life and they have to go through them. People who take things positively succeed in their lives no matter how many adversities they go through in their lives. Take anyone successful, you will know that the person didn’t get that success easily. He/she has his/her own share of challenges to reach those heights.

For instance, Oprah Winfrey is one of the richest women and a well-known TV personality and celebrity in the world. How many of us know that she went through hell before she could achieve anything her life. Many people would say that she was born lucky so she could make things happen for her. Is that so? Really, do you also feel the same? But that’s not the only reality. She may be lucky, but it’s not only her luck that brought her huge success, name and fame. It is her perspective towards her adversities or crises that helped her become who she is today. She is one of the most positive persons on this earth.

So, don’t wait for the good time to come, instead change your perspective towards your life and make every moment good.

2. Your attitude is what makes the difference

It’s not how much money you possess, it’s not how intelligent you are, it’s how you behave in a given situation matters the most. Your attitude towards crisis is what makes the difference. Here is a story, we all know Thomas Edison. With that, we also know that he actually worked hard to get to that position. As an inventor, he made 1000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. Once he was asked by a reporter “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” Edison replied…” I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.” And when in 1914, the great fire was triggered by highly combustible nitrate film exploding and burnt his entire factory. In just a few hours everything was turned into a barn. Edison’s 24-year-old son, Charles, was disturbed as he watched the blaze destroy his dad’s work. Edison calmly walked over to him, and in a childlike voice, he said to his son, “Go get your mother and all her friends. They’ll never see a fire like this again.” When his son objected, Edison said, “It’s all right. We’ve just got rid of a lot of rubbish.” Later, Edison quotes, “Although I am over 67 years old, I’ll start all over again tomorrow.”

Yes, this is the attitude I am talking about! Understand, the more you think of crises as crises you will have more and more of them. However, the moment you change your mindset towards the adversities, things will start to happen your way. This is the very “MANTRA” of success in life. And that’s the reason Thomas Edison was so successful.

3. Your thought process

Many people do not understand this very simple thing that your thought process can change your life dramatically. Whether you believe or not, it is true – how you think becomes your reality. For instance, you must have seen many people during trouble behave weird. They lose their control, they become frustrated, they start cursing their situation, and as a result, they get into more mess. Remember that your mind is very powerful, it can make things happen for you and break things happen for you. So, you must use your mind in the right direction, even in dire situations. Understand the power of the subconscious mind, whatever you feed it with, it starts to manifest. So, if you also want to be successful and have opportunities even in adversities, change the way you think.

You cannot see things clearly when your vision is obstructed, only when there is no obstruction, things become clear. Among too many successful people, one is Steve Jobs, the American Business Tycoon. We all know how he started his company, and then he was terminated from the same company by his partner. If he had been some random person, he would have felt self-defeated and victimized himself after he was fired from Apple. But he didn’t do that; instead, he found the opportunity in the crises, which others could have never seen. He started a small animation company and turned it to the juggernaut that is now Pixar. And in the year 2006, when the Walt Disney Company bought Pixar, Jobs immediately became the largest shareholder in Disney. Just imagine, if he had had a negative thought process, he would have fallen into the trap of depression and then only. And the world would never have the opportunity to have him!

So, the moral of the story is that life doesn’t happen our way; unwanted things happen; we should look beyond our problems, embrace the discomfort and learn to move on!

4. Your reactions to the situation

During crises, you may not realize how you react to the situation, but that matters. Also, the stability of your mind can be tested in the most difficult of times. Some people tend to react badly during adversities. They think that behaving that way is required, or is normal, or justifiable; however, it is not. People who react to situations often end up getting into more messy situations. Always remember that only a calm and stable mind can see opportunity even in the worst of the times. When people are calm, even when they go through tough times, they can think positive. And when a person is positive opportunities come their way automatically. Remember that nothing in this life is permanent, whether you are going through a very tough time or a very good time. One who knows how to deal with the adversities of life leads a happy and healthy life. People who put their bullock before the cart live life the way they want to. And the ones who do the opposite of it, end up struggling and messing their lives up. So, the moral is – be wise and do not take hasty decisions or give quick reactions.

Ever since the outbreak of COVID – 19, people in almost every country have been asked to stay home. It is for their safety and to fight the situation. But, people are already getting frustrated while sitting at home. Many of them even have started to feel depressed and distressed. Is it such a huge crisis that there is no way out??? Not at all! It is all in your mind that you are stuck at home; that you cannot do anything now; that this is the end of everything etc.

Even in this situation of crises you have several different things to do, like, you can learn a course online. You can think of starting your own online business. Many of us are already frustrated with our jobs – still, we are cribbing for the same. Can’t we simply spend this time thinking and planning our own online business? So that tomorrow we have something of our own that we can rely on. So that we can be our own boss and work according to our own timings. And most importantly, we will have the privilege to spend quality time with our loved ones, which will help us develop high bonds and love in the family.

“Change is only constant!” And if we start seeing crises as the occurrence of a change in our lives, we would be able to lead a life of our dreams! All we need to do is – accept the change, never try to control it. The more you try to control things, the more difficult the situation becomes. Acceptance is the key to a successful life. We all possess the power! The power to choose to ride the waves of change and turn it into an opportunity.
